Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, condemned the House of Assembly members’ attitude towards his administration on Monday, threatening to remove them from their position as lawmakers should he so choose.
This was said by Governor Fubara in a speech to a group of Bayelsa State political and traditional leaders who had come to the state capital of Port Harcourt to seek a resolution to the political unrest in Rivers State and better ties between the two states.
He declared that the lawmakers’ existence is based on his acceptance of the Peace Accord, which Bola Tinubu started.

Governor Fubara informed the delegation, led by Senator Henry Siriake Dickson, a representative for Bayelsa West and a former governor of Bayelsa State, that he has been the one exercising restraint ever since the state’s problem got out of hand.
He claimed that in spite of having state authority at his disposal to accomplish his goals, he has remained the big brother in the face of threats and unjustified attacks.
In his words, “Those group of men who claim that are Assembly members are not Assembly members, they are not existing. I want it to be on record. I accepted that Peace Accord to give them a floating. That is the truth.
“There was nothing in that Peace Accord that’s a constitutional issue; it’s a political solution to a problem. And I accepted it because these were people that were eating in my house, these were people I have helped paid their children’s school fees when I wasn’t even a governor. So, what is the thing there?

He disclosed that he had consistently attended all meetings held to address the state’s crisis, but that following each one, he was presented with a fresh angle on the matter from the other side.
Despite this, he pledged to maintain peace and acknowledged the fleeting nature of power.
The governor also acknowledged the contribution some political figures had made to his ascent to office, particularly Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and his predecessor, but he insisted that such endeavours would not cause him to become a man-worshipper.
He explained his appearance as supernatural, stating that God can use anybody—even an enemy—to further His goals in a man’s life.
