Former Chelsea midfielder and Nigerian football legend, Mikel Obi, is determined to see his fellow countryman, Victor Osimhen, on the blue jersey of Chelsea. Mikel, in a recent video shared on X, expressed his commitment to persuading the prolific Napoli striker to join the London club before the summer transfer window closes. He also revealed that Chelsea icon Didier Drogba is actively involved in the effort, hoping to influence Osimhen’s decision.
Osimhen’s future has been a hot topic of discussion, with widespread speculation surrounding his potential departure from Napoli. The striker, who has expressed his desire to leave the Serie A champions, has been linked with a move to Chelsea, which could involve Romelu Lukaku heading in the opposite direction.
Chelsea, who have already signed a host of players this summer—including Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, and Filip Jorgensen—are reportedly keen to add Osimhen to their ranks. The 25-year-old striker is seen as a key target to lead the club’s attack in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Mikel Obi believes that Osimhen would be a perfect fit for Chelsea, drawing comparisons to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in terms of goal-scoring prowess. “We need someone who can finish and score goals—those crucial tap-ins,” Mikel said. “Victor Osimhen will bring that to Chelsea. I’ll be in touch with him, sending texts and making calls to ensure Chelsea is his top priority. It seems like he loves the club and wants to come to Chelsea.”
The former Super Eagles captain emphasized the importance of securing Osimhen’s signature, considering the stiff competition from other European giants like Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Liverpool. However, Chelsea appears to be the frontrunner, despite the steep €130 million price tag attached to the striker.
Drogba’s involvement further underscores the club’s determination to land Osimhen. The Chelsea legend has reportedly been in communication with the striker, sharing insights about the club and its significance to its former players. “We all want to see Victor come to Chelsea,” Mikel added. “He’s a fantastic guy and a brilliant player, and I’m doing everything I can to make this happen.”
