When they return to Russia, several Russian troops arrested in Ukraine have threatened to rise up against President Vladimir Putin.
The detainees stated that they would be tried for targeting and killing innocent civilians during Russian forces’ continuing invasion of Ukraine.
According to CNN, they expressed regret over the invasion of Ukraine, stating, “We will all be judged.”

According to CNN, one of them stated, “I want to encourage our commander-in-chief to halt terror activities in Ukraine because when we return, we’ll rise against him.”
“Orders to commit crimes” have been issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It’s not just about demilitarizing Ukraine or defeating its Armed Forces; cities of innocent citizens are being devastated as well.
“The crimes that we committed, we all will be judged,” they stated.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 600 Russian soldiers have been captured in Ukraine and nearly a dozen of them appeared in news conferences held by the Ukrainian authorities.

However, their public appearances may be questionable under the Geneva Conventions. The conventions go against states unnecessarily humiliating prisoners of war.
