Segun Showunmi, a former governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has made fun of Sadiya Umar-Farouq, a former minister of social development, disaster management, and humanitarian affairs, for not accepting the invitation from the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC is purportedly looking into a huge financial scandal that allegedly involves a N37.1 billion fraud during her term and is connected to a contractor by the name of James Okwete, as previously reported by Anaedoonline.ng.

On January 3, 2024, Umar-Farouq was supposed to report to the EFCC offices in Jabi, Abuja, at 10:00 am. However, he failed to show up, leaving the investigators waiting for more than eight hours. She or her representatives did not formally communicate a reason for her absence.
To advance the current investigation, the EFCC had written to Umar Farouq requesting that he come in for interrogation.
However, the former minister wrote to say she was unable to accept the invitation owing to health issues, as the EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said in a Thursday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
In response to the news, Showunmi wrote on X that when asked to explain how they misappropriated money while in government, politicians would often become ill.
