Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been spirited away from the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja to an unidentified private facility, according to Naija News.
According to reports, the beleaguered suspended anti-graft agency leader was transferred to another facility so that the secret police could have complete control over him after he apparently refused to cooperate with them while in their custody.
Bawa was quoted earlier as telling investigators that the DSS had no right to keep him without charges, which explains his refusal to write any statements in custody.
REVEALED: Why Bola Tinubu Suspended EFCC Chairman, Bawa
However, on Tuesday, a source who spoke with SaharaReporters about the case said that Bawa had been transferred from the DSS headquarters to one of its private facilities.
“They’ve taken Bawa from DSS headquarters to one of their private facilities to have total control over him after he refused to write statements requested from him,” the top security source who spoke on anonymity reportedly said.
According to media reports, Bawa has been detained with the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dismissed the duo just days after being sworn in as Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.
Bawa and Emefiele are accused of corruption and misuse of power.
