On Tuesday, an Abuja Federal High Court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to resume continuous voter registration as soon as possible until 90 days before the 2023 general elections.
In the ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo also ordered INEC to make sure that eligible Nigerians would not be denied the chance to have their voter’s card for the upcoming election.
According to Justice Ekwo, the electoral umpire has a constitutional duty to ensure that the election is conducted in accordance with Nigerian law.
“The case of the plaintiffs succeeds on merit,” the judge declared.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Anajat Salmat and three others had sued INEC as sole defendant in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022.
