Tension Rises as Oruku Community in Enugu Threatens Communal War with Umu-Ode
Oruku, a community in Enugu State, Nigeria, is currently gripped by palpable tension as warmongers within the community seek to instigate another communal war, this time with the neighboring Umu-Ode community in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that these warmongers from Oruku have resorted to violent actions on multiple occasions, venturing to the boundary with Umu-Ode and firing gunshots sporadically for extended periods. This ongoing conflict stems from a partitioning of the community, with a peace deal brokered by the Enugu State government favoring Oruku by a 70:30 percent ratio.
However, supporters of this peace deal have faced grave consequences. Members of the Oruku community who supported the government’s initiative have had their houses looted and set ablaze by these warmongers. Tragically, several leaders who backed the peace deal, including their traditional ruler, Late Igwe Chidiebere Emmanuel Mbah, the President General of the Community, and the head of the Community Vigilantes, have been killed.

The situation has escalated to the point where the warmongers within Oruku have procured and delivered 20 AK-47 rifles, in addition to retaining several firearms, including a machine gun from previous conflicts, which they have refused to surrender to the police despite previous peace agreements reached in 2017.
Mr. Agozi Ani, one of the victims of the destruction within the community, expressed his anguish over the situation. He lamented that those who supported the government’s peace deal and survived have been banned from returning to the community. Ani emphasized that their crime was supporting the former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s peace initiative for Oruku-Umu-Ode conflicts.
Despite their efforts to restore peace based on promises from the former governor, these supporters now find themselves bearing the brunt of the conflict. Ani revealed that their homes had been destroyed, houses demolished, and the materials sold as scraps. He also noted that heavily armed individuals, equipped with approximately 20 AK-47 rifles, were currently ruling the village.
The frustrated victim pointed out that those arrested for the arson and murders were subsequently released by the former Governor Ugwuanyi and his Attorney General, leaving them feeling betrayed and abandoned by the government they had supported.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Enugu State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, could not be reached.

Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has appealed to agitators in the South-East to sheathe their swords, warning that war is not child’s play.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said the destruction and killings in the region should not be regarded as a challenge to the federal government only.
In a chat with reporters on Tuesday in Lagos, Nnamani noted that it is better for the Igbos to remain and achieve more in Nigeria.
Nnamani, Nwodo Advise Youths To Establish Themselves Before Joining Politics
“Most of the people who call for war are usually the first to be wiped out. They would not survive the first two weeks.
“I witnessed the Biafra war. Many people died, including students in Nsukka; young and bright citizens who were a joy to their parents, families and communities.
“If Nigeria is properly organized, Igbos will thrive well. We should continue to develop our talents and businesses.
“The Igbos stand to benefit most if there is peace. Without boasting, there is no place you would not find Igbos.
“Go to Banana Island and Victoria Island in Lagos. Many of the skyscrapers are owned by Igbos. In Abuja, three quarters of the hotels are owned by Igbos.

LATEST: Stop Shiites Planned Protest In Jos – Military Order Troops
The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven has ordered troops to stop members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) from protesting in any part of Plateau State.
The order was contained in a statement signed by the Military Information Officer, Major Ishaku Takwa.
IMN had planned a protest in Plateau State for Friday 20th August 2021 over the health challenges of its leader Ibrahim El-Zakazky.
But the joint security task force said intelligence reports indicate that the planned protest will breach security in the state.
“Operation Safe Haven, the joint security task force maintaining law and order in Plateau State and parts of Bauchi and Southern Kaduna has ordered troops to ensure that the planned protest by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) or any other group does not take place in any part of Plateau state until full security is guaranteed,” the statement read.
According to Major Takwa’s communique, the planned march could be hijacked by hoodlums and miscreants thereby causing mayhem within the Jos metropolis.

The Force called on members of the IMN to shelve their planned protest as the operation is committed to the total restoration of peace in the Plateau.
The military also said it is working with the state government, critical stakeholders such as traditional and religious leaders, and the citizens to achieve the mandate.
Over the years, there have been repeated clashes between members of the IMN and security agents.

LATEST: Armed ‘Preachers’ Instill Fear On Bandits
An armed preacher group instilling fear into bandits has surfaced in the Dansadau Emirate of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Members of the group were recently seen on motorbikes at Dandalla community which is located 15 kilometers south of Dansadau town.
Farther south of the community lies a forest straddling the Birnin Gwari axis of neighboring Kaduna State. Communities, especially in the south, east, and west of Dansadau town have for many years been under the siege of bandits who even adjudicate between people whenever there is any dispute.
Daily Trust reports that members of the group, who wore long beards, performed their Jumat prayer separately last Friday after which they began preaching to the bandits to stop attacking communities.
They preached that rather than attacking peasant farmers and stopping them from working on their farmlands, the bandits should turn their guns against government officials.
The Wazirin Dansadau, Alhaji Mustapha Umar, said a resident of the community confirmed the development to him.

“It is true the armed men came to the community. There is a fear in the minds of the residents that they might be motivated by the Boko Haram ideology,” he was reported as saying.
Allah Mustapha, who was once kidnapped by the gunmen but released after a ransom was paid, said one of the group members was shot by a bandit after he preached to them.

“The killing of the member of the group sparked a deadly fight between them, with many of the bandits killed. Even the bandits themselves are frightened by the activities of this armed group in the forest and this is what I learned from their conversation when I was under their captivity,” he said.

LATEST: Prepare For War, Forget Constitution —Yoruba Leader, Akintoye
The apex leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Professor Banji Akintoye, has raised the alarm that war had been declared on Yoruba people with the recent attack on Igangan area of Oyo State by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He described the attack in which no fewer than people were killed as a declaration of war against peace-loving Yoruba people.
Accusing the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of backing terrorist herdsmen that have been maiming, killing and raping people in Yoruba land, Akintoye, in a statement personally signed by him and made available to journalists on Monday by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, called on Yoruba people to arm themselves with whatever they can lay their hands upon to defend their land against external aggression.
LATEST: Fulani People Out To Capture Nigeria – Prof Akintoye
While saluting Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State who doubles as the Chairman of South-West Governors Forum for his bold stand on the Igangan massacre, Akintoye called on the governors to put aside constitutional objections to defend their people, saying “Yoruba land has been surrounded, and we must act now.”
The renowned historian said historically, the Yoruba people have never been conquered, while urging the younger generation of Yoruba people never to surrender to any form of intimidation or harassment.
He said, “The Alana and worldwide leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, Emeritus Professor ‘Banji Akintoye, on behalf of all patriotic and concerned Yoruba people, and in consultation, and collaboration with hundreds of self determination groups at home and in the Diaspora, express uttermost shock and horror at the news of the barbarous killings and destruction by Fulani and other terrorists upon our people at Igangan, Ibarapa area of Oyo State.
“While commiserating with our people in Igangan, we hereby issue a red alert to all Yoruba people at home and in the Diaspora.
“It must now be clear to all Yoruba people of all classes and economic circumstances that war has come in a big way to our homeland. This war has been coming relentlessly for five years, but some of our own people failed to understand the full intent and impact of it. Some have thought the answer is to do one constitutional or political thing to Nigeria and the war would go away. But we must now all know that such propositions concerning Nigeria are blatantly unrealistic.
“And indeed these endanger Yorubaland, the Yoruba people and the Yoruba civilization by diverting the attention of our people from the manifest reality of our time.
JUST IN: Popular Sunday Igboho, Supporters Hit Igangan Over Quit Notice
“We now call on all Yoruba people at home and abroad to focus on the danger of the moment in a manner that will be powerful enough to preserve our nation and civilization.
“First we call on our State Governors to push aside all the constitutional objections that have been constantly raised from certain quarters whenever our governors have taken measures to defend our people.
“We are particularly grateful to Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State and all other Governors who support him in the patriotic and manly statement that he has issued on the Igangan disaster.
“We repeat what we have said again and again that we will stand fully and powerfully behind our Governors in any measure that they may adopt to defend our people.
“We say to our state governors, your first constitutional duty is to ensure the security of life and property in our Yoruba states. In the face of that important task, constitutional and political finesse and obstructions are a danger to the lives and property of our people.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has failed woefully to protect the Yoruba people, along with other indigenous peoples of the Nigerian South and the Middle Belt against these invading, marauding forces.
“In fact, when we consider all the behaviour of the federal government in the face of this danger to the indigenous peoples and citizens of Nigeria, we can not avoid the conclusion that the federal government is a sponsor of the terror in our land.
LATEST: What South West Governors Said About Oyo Killings By Fulani Herdsmen
“The federal government started by saying and doing nothing about the terrorism while apparently instructing the security agencies to do nothing to confront the terrorism.
“The federal government persistently gives to the wide world a false picture of the situation by claiming that everything is a product of climate change even as the Fulani insistently issues statements that their mission is to conquer and subdue all the indigenous peoples of Nigeria and forcefully take their land for Fulani folks from all over West Africa. And even as international terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Al Qaeda and even Al-Shabab come to reinforce this Fulani terrorism all over Nigeria.
“While allowing the Fulani to move freely with and to import various categories of weapons into Nigeria, the Federal Government prohibited the possession of any kind of fire arms by any indigenous citizens of Nigeria, sending the police and army to seize such privately owned weapons including those for which these citizens had earlier been licensed for hunting and sports.
“In the light of all the foregoing, we call on all our governors to stop letting objections by federal officials to obstruct the defence of our peoples.
“We call on all Yoruba people to rise up as one to defeat this danger. We Yoruba have a proud history that we have never been conquered.
“Let us not succumb to conquest now. Let us thank the countless young people of our land who have been standing up against the invasion of our land.
“But let us now rise to do more than merely thanking them and rise to give them all the support they need to clear our land of all terrorists of all kinds.
UPDATE: ‘Terrorists Have Surrounded Southwest’ – Akintoye Warns
“Let us show to the world that though we are a civilized and life respecting people, we are nevertheless a people supremely capable of defending our people and our homeland.
“The persistent Ilana Omo Oodua calls to arms of all Yoruba people on their farms, hamlets, villages, towns, cities and other communities must now be urgently activated with communal self defence systems, around their abodes and places of work.
“You must urgently install early warning alarms; human, manual, scientific or spiritual.
“Also the traditional and hi-tech defensive mechanisms must come into place. Encourage and assist our young people to form dynamic teams that not only defend but attack the enemies wherever they have dug themselves into our forests and farmlands.
“Arm yourselves with whatever you can lay your hands upon, create or develop as individuals, and as communities to confront the enemy.
“Ensure they no longer succeed in their mission anywhere in Yorubaland. Our technology wizards are already putting together structures that will protect our land and destroy the enemy.
“To the elite of the Yoruba Nation, our businessmen and our professionals, we now appeal that you decide and take action to assist all the efforts outlined above.
Akintoye Reveals An Imminent Attack on Redemption Camp, Winners, Mosques
“We remember with gratitude that when the COVID-19 crisis loomed all over the world in 2020, our businessmen quickly put together a fund amounting to billions of naira to help fight the dreaded virus.
“We call on you now to do the same, to set up a large fund for the defence of our homeland and help with your expertise to set up the disbursement, management and auditing of the funds.
“The important goal must be that the funds be made to reach as quickly and adequately as possible all defensive and offensive groups and teams that demonstrate capabilities to produce quick and abiding results.
“We are Yoruba and we will prevail in this crisis. And then we will go forth and manage our own sovereign Oduduwa Nation to the admiration of all mankind- a land of security, opportunity and confident hope in prosperity for all our people and all peaceful and enterprising foreigners who come to our land.”

The Nigerian government led by President Buhari has warned those attacking security operatives and formations across the country that they are asking for war.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the submission on Tuesday during a press conference in Lagos where he addressed issues of insecurity across the nation noting that it has attained a dangerous trend.

The Minister said if the perpetrators don’t stop, they will be met with overwhelming force from the government.
He said: “Now, there is a growing dangerous trend which I will like to comment on. It is the practice of launching deadly attacks against the nation’s security personnel. Soldiers as well as police, customs, and other security agents have been killed and maimed in some parts of the country in this growing trend of targeting security forces.
“I want to say, unequivocally, that any attack on our security men and women is an attack on the state and a declaration of war against the nation. It follows, therefore, that this will be countered with overwhelming force.
“When those whose responsibility it is to protect us are themselves being subjected to mindless attacks, it can only be for one reason only: To instill fear and evoke a sense of pervasive insecurity among the people.

“Whether known or unknown gunmen, those engaged in this dastardly act will pay dearly for their actions.”
Mohammed however added that the government will continue to seek ways to restore peace and reduce the tension in the country.
“While the government continues with these efforts to restore peace and security continues, I want to appeal to all of us to play our part in lowering the palpable tension in the polity as a result of the security challenges. The first step is to tone down the rhetoric,” he added.
Earlier, Anaedoonline had reported that the Information Minister had revealed that the federal government wil take adequate action on terrorist groups, bandits and unknown gunmen actions in the country.
