The South East Development Commission, or SEDC, was established as a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the inclusive development of the South East after the civil war, according to former congressman Sam Onuigbo.
Onuigbo, a member of the House of Representatives, was reacting to Tinubu’s passing of the South East Development Commission Bill.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Onuigbo commended Rep. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, for ensuring that the bill was passed.

He said that the commission would oversee the general growth and development of the area.
The North East Development Commission representative for House members from the South East also commended them for co-sponsoring the bill.
He went on to say that the action showed a sincere commitment to tackling the region’s insecurity as well as the deteriorating infrastructure that had long afflicted it.
He praised Kalu for his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication to the South East’s development.
He said that the launch and execution of the Peace in the South East Project, or PISE-P, was the first instance of this.

Onuigbo also praised Tinubu for demonstrating his dedication to a flourishing, united Nigeria that leaves no region behind.
Recall that Kalu and other South East MPs in the House of MPs co-sponsored the South East Development Commission, or SEDC, Establishment Bill.
The federation account is supposed to provide funds for the South East region’s development.
