President Bola Tinubu presided over the 20th session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House, Abuja. The meeting, which started at 1:13 p.m., marked an unusual schedule change, as FEC sessions are traditionally held earlier in the week.
The shift to a Thursday meeting follows the recent postponement of last week’s session due to the tragic passing of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the former Chief of Army Staff. This is the first council meeting since the Army Chief’s passing, and Tinubu had spent the preceding hour in discussions with a delegation from the South-South region.
Present at the meeting were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack. Dr. Emanso Okop attended on behalf of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. Meanwhile, Minister of Environment Abbas Lawal and other officials were notably absent, as they were attending the 2024 UN Climate Change Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning took the lead in a presentation likely tied to President Tinubu’s forthcoming 2025 budget. This presentation signals the administration’s preparatory steps for the next fiscal year, emphasizing the importance of robust economic planning amid shifting global and domestic financial landscapes.
The day’s agenda reflects the administration’s forward-looking approach, as Tinubu and his team look ahead to critical budgetary decisions while navigating national priorities and international commitments.
