The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed the highest scorers for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at its ongoing policy meeting in Abuja. Three candidates achieved the top score of 367: Olowu Joseph from Ondo State, Alayande David from Oyo State, and Orukpe Joel from Edo State.
In 2023, Umeh Nkechinyere held the top spot with a score of 360. However, JAMB decided against announcing the highest scorer for 2024 to avoid controversies like the “Mmesoma matter” from the previous year. Ejikeme Mmesoma, a 19-year-old student, falsely claimed a score of 362, while her actual score was 249.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, reiterated the Board’s stance on not publicizing the names of its top-performing candidates. He emphasized that the UTME is primarily a ranking examination and other parameters will be considered for determining the minimum admissible score for candidates seeking admission to tertiary institutions.
