The Senate of the University of Abuja has appointed Aisha Maikudi, the youngest Professor of Law at the institution, as the acting Vice Chancellor. Currently serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Maikudi’s appointment was announced following her nomination at a valedictory Senate meeting. Outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah stated that Maikudi would assume the role temporarily, effective after his tenure ends on June 30, 2024, pending ratification by the Governing Council.
Born on January 31, 1983, Maikudi attended Queens College, Lagos, for her secondary education and pursued higher studies abroad. She obtained her LLB from the University of Reading, an LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science, and earned her PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja in 2015. Joining the University of Abuja as a Lecturer II in 2008, she achieved the rank of Professor in 2022.
Throughout her career, Maikudi has made significant contributions to academia, notably as the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law and as the founding Director of the University of Abuja International Centre. Her expertise in International Law has been recognized internationally, with her participation in numerous conferences and research initiatives focusing on United Nations Law.
In her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed gratitude to the Senate for their support and pledged to uphold theinstitution’s academic standards and values. She is a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Federation of Women Lawyers.
