The allegation that a team from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Enugu Zonal Directorate invaded Urban Radio 94.5FM in Enugu on Monday, October 14, has been dispelled by the EFCC.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Dele Oyewale, the head of the EFCC’s media and publicity department, four commission officers attempted to invite Favour Ekoh, the host of the station’s Prime Time program, to participate in an alleged N700 million ponzi scheme, but were eventually stopped and locked inside the building.
He added that the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC is looking into Ekoh in relation to the purported fraud that involved roughly fifty victims. He mentioned that the victims claimed that Ekoh had seduced them into funding a project called “Life Trading” at Leverage Index Limited, promising returns on investment of 10% of their initial investments over time.

The statement read: “The victims alleged that after investing their money into the company located at No. 1 Colliery Street, Okpara Avenue, Enugu State, the company closed its office with no return on investment or principal returned to the victims. Ekoh allegedly invited the victims into the business and she remained the only link the victims could hold.
He claimed that at the radio station, the police dutifully introduced themselves and gave Bamikole Omoyomi, the general manager of the station, an explanation of their objective. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the cops were imprisoned since the gate was closed from the inside as well.
According to Oyewale, the EFCC officers had no choice but to ask for help, and when help arrived, Ekoh, Omoyomi, and the two security guards who had imprisoned them within the building were all taken into custody.

The EFCC maintained that Ekoh was not detained while on air and that the station’s legal operations were not interfered with, contrary to what had been wrongly rumoured. It further stated that the manager and the two security guards had been freed after giving statements.
While reaffirming its commitment to the media, the EFCC called for the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Press Institute (IPI) to look into the station’s actions in light of ethics and integrity in professional practice. It also said that unlawful obstruction of commission officers performing their duties was unacceptable.
