The payment of renewal costs for federal government employees’ Group Life Assurance has been approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, revealed this information on Wednesday at the conclusion of the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) first meeting of 2024, which was held in Abuja.
He claimed that this was in response to a memo that Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, had delivered to the council.

He stated that in order to protect government employees from unanticipated events that may arise while they are performing their jobs, the President has approved around N9.6 billion for 12 local insurance companies.
“There are about 12 insurance companies involved. It’s a normal annual cover that insurance companies give workers. So, in the event of death or severe injury, they can resort to and so that their families would not have to suffer,’’ he said.
According to Idris, the administration’s decision to grant all employees the necessary compensation would enhance productivity, efficiency, and the quality of services provided to Nigerians.
The January start date for the student loan programme is still in effect, according to Yusuf Sununu, Minister of State for Education. He also emphasised that a website has been operational for interested students who meet the necessary requirements.

He mentioned that the 2024 budget included cash allocated by the government for it.
He claims that in order to boost the number of Nigerian students enrolled and promote research at higher education institutions across the globe, the council authorised the establishment of foreign university campuses in the nation.
