Amid suspicions regarding his political affiliation, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president in 2023, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party. Speaking to Nigerians through his verified Twitter account, Obi reaffirmed his support for the Labour Party in response to recent media rumours that raised questions about his political beliefs.
Speaking from the airport in Abuja, Obi related a chat he had with a journalist who asked if his recent remarks regarding the Obidient Movement meant he was leaving the Labour Party. “For the attention of all those holding such an impression and for the general public, I remain a faithful, committed and loyal member of the Labour Party,” Obi stated in reaction to these rumours.

The party leader, Obi, reaffirmed his commitment to cooperating with other party leaders to strengthen the Labour Party and collaborate with like-minded individuals and groups across Nigeria. His goal, he stated, is to build a robust and improved party that will help reconstruct Nigeria.
“My aspiration and desire, working closely with other leaders, is to reconcile our valued members and partner with like minds and parties all over the country to build a strong and better party that will catalyze and commence the rebuilding of a new Nigeria,” Obi affirmed.
Obi clarified that his remarks the day before were meant to allay fears among followers, a large number of whom are ready for change in Nigeria but are not associated with any political party. He gave them the assurance that the plan for a new Nigeria is still in place.
“Our goal and aspirations remain that a new Nigeria is possible,” Obi stressed, reinforcing his commitment to the cause that has galvanized many Nigerians.
