The third verse of the national anthem is now the official national prayer of the nation, as approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
FEC also approved that the first stanza of the National Anthem should be rendered at all official functions, while the three stanzas should be reserved for special occasions such as Independence Day, Democracy Day, the inauguration of the National Assembly, Children’s Day, Armed Forces Remembrance Day, and Workers’ Day.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, announced this news on Tuesday at the NOA office in Umuahia, Abia State, during a press conference on the agency’s current national programs.

The NOA DG, who was represented by Mrs Theresa Maduekwe, noted that his office, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, submitted various recommendations attempting to promote national value orientation and character, and all the memoranda were approved by FEC.
Mallam Issa-Onilu claims that in order to maintain uniformity, NOA, the guardian of national symbols, was given permission to serve as the source for all official emblems.
He mentioned that National Symbols Enlightenment Day, set for September 16, has been approved, and citizenship instruction will now be required in Nigerian schools, starting in primary and continuing through secondary education.
He added that the FEC has authorised requiring the charter to be included in pre-resumption conferences for Federal Executive Council members, National Assembly members, the Judiciary, and other government appointees, among other approvals.

According to the agency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration eliminated fuel subsidies to divert funds towards more sustainable economic initiatives. It also added that the administration before Tinubu did not budget for subsidies in 2023. The agency urged Nigerians to participate in various Federal Government economic transformation and social intervention programs.
The NOA DG lists the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund, Student Loan Scheme, Special Purpose Vehicle, Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiatives, Agricultural and Food Security Initiatives, and Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiatives as a few of the intervention initiatives.
Speaking next was Mrs. Regina Iroha, the State Director of NOA for Abia, who stated that her organisation is starting a widespread campaign to educate Abia citizens about federal policies and programs, the significance of embracing them, as well as the importance of sustaining peace and unity in the country.
