The collapse of a school building in Busa Buji village, Jos, Plateau State, has saddened Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in 2023.
At least 16 kids are said to have died in the tragedy, and many more people—including teachers—are still believed to be buried beneath the debris.
The former governor of Anambra State called the reports “heartbreaking” in a post on his official X Twitter. He focused on the anguish that the young pupils went through and the worry that their parents had during this terrible event.

Obi stated, “I understand that rescue operations began in full swing. I thank various organisations, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, Police, and many other individuals helping out with the safe rescue of our children and their teachers.
He sent his condolences to the relatives of all the dead, the administration, faculty, and students of the institution, as well as the people of Plateau State.
In order to stop such incidents from happening in the future, Obi also demanded a full probe of the situation.
“My sincere prayers are with the remaining trapped children and teachers for their safe rescue. May God grant eternal rest to the dead, give their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss, and grant quick recovery to the injured,” he added.
