Renowned Nigerian actor Chidi Mokeme, who is best known for the films Shanty Town and Gulder Ultimate Search, argued that the right to protest is guaranteed by the constitution and reminded the people of Nigeria that Chief Bola Tinubu has also used this right unhindered.
With this X-handle remark, Mokeme emphasised the responsibility of the police to protect people’s lives and property, including those of law-abiding protestors.

He declared that security agencies should defend demonstrators, find troublemakers, and see to it that they are brought to jail if there is intelligence pointing to possible disturbances by dishonest individuals.
In his statement, he said, ” Protests are a constitutionally guaranteed right of the people. The president, himself, has exercised this right severally in the past without restraint. The police have a constitutional responsibility to protect lives & properties of citizens including legitimate protesters…”
Mokeme’s passionate plea is being made in the midst of rising tensions and worries about violence at the next protests.
