According to Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, $250,000 intended for treating patients with vesico-vaginal fistulas (VVF) was instead used to train physicians.
Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, was paid a courtesy call on Tuesday. It was disclosed that the yearly monies allocated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the treatment of VVF patients were purportedly used for the purpose of training physicians.

She said, “The $250,000 was intended for the treatment of VVF patients, but it was used to train doctors instead. We will work to ensure that ECOWAS releases the funds again so we can treat the patients, rehabilitate them and empower them.”.
She declared her intention to end poverty and hunger by ensuring that women were supported and made to participate to the food security of the country by using all available resources, including earth dams for farming.
The minister presented a proposal to visit each of the 36 states and solicit governor support for programs aimed at empowering women.
