WHY NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WORKERS CALLED OFF STRIKE
The National Assembly chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has given reasons for calling off its four-day warning strike action aimed at pressing home its demands.
PASAN’s chairman, Comrade Musa Bature Muhammed, told reporters that the decision to call off the strike was based on assurances from the management of the National Assembly to meet their demands, which includes 28% increment in the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).
He disclosed that the National Assembly management has okayed the implementation of the increase, which will commence from January 2019, promising to source for the arrears and pay in instalments.
He said both chambers of the National Assembly have made significant progress aimed at passing the document and the process of harmonization of the Conditions of Service in line with the demand for a review in the condition of service.
On the release of promotions letters, he said it was agreed that the outstanding letters will be released as soon as work resumes.
He, however, hinted that the union would return to the trenches in January if the National Assembly leadership renege on its promises to meet their demands.
