Nigeria Still Needs You, Disu Reacts To Ighalo’s Retirement From International Football

Former Flying Eagles coach Tunde Disu has urged Odion Ighalo to rescind his decision to retire from the Super Eagles.

During an interview on Tuesday, Disu described the Eagles first choice striker’s retirement as “premature.”

Ighalo, who emerged as the highest goal scorer at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, announced his decision to quit the Super Eagles after the competition.

“Ighalo’s decision to quit the national team is premature, the team still needs him. My reason is that the team at present doesn’t have any player with experience to take over.”

“My position is not that the country doesn’t have quality strikers, but they should have been paired alongside him to learn,” he said in an interview with NAN. Disu urged the Shanghai Shenhua striker to ignore the negative comments of fans. “Ighalo tried for the team and if he is considering the negative vibes from football fans, maybe that is a bit childish, he should have developed a thick skin to that.”
