What Is A Refuse Dump Site Doing Next To A Government Primary School? (Photos)

The pupils and Management of New Bethel primary school along Court Road, Onitsha cry out for urgent relocation of the refuse dump site that is located along their school wall.
Residents of the area also complained that the refuse dump site situated near the primary school is an eyesore and detrimental to the health of the school kids.
Anaedoonline.com gathered that the refuse dump site was recently cleared by some volunteers of a concerned Youth Organization, Youth African Leaders Initiative YALI, Anambra Hub, to mark Nelson Mandela day, 2019.
The volunteers from the Anambra State chapter of the Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI, took the day to clear up the New Bethel school refuse dumpsite.

Speaking to Anaedoonline.com, One of the volunteers by name Chinonye wondered why the government allowed the ANSWAMA to use school premises as a refuse dumpsite.
In his words, “why would the government allow the ANSWAMA to use that particular site as a refuse dump site? Didn’t they take note of the primary school there? Is it because it is a government school? And if they must do that, why can’t they be emptying it as often as possible (at least twice a week)” he queried.
The headmistress, teachers, and pupils of the school who were surprised at the humanitarian service of the group expressed their gratitude and relief at the turn of event.
The headmistress, however, lamented how the Parents and Teachers Association PTA, of the school, had fought tooth and nail to see that the refuse site was either relocated or emptied constantly at least, twice a week, all to no avail.
The coordinator of the group, YALI Anambra, Mr. Nonso Anene pleaded with the state government, Ministry of Environment and Waste Management Agencies to pay attention to the ugly situation of New Bethel school, Onitsha.
