NYSC: Anambra Approves Monthly Allowance For Corp Members

Anambra State government has approved payment of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) monthly allowance for corps members in the state posted in the rural and hard-to-reach areas. Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano gave the information at the National Youth Serving Corps (NYSC) Temporary Orientation Camp, Umunya, during the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 orientation course.

The governor was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Solo Chukwulobelu. According to him “I also recently approved the purchase of 500unit life jackets for the safety of corps members deployed to riverine areas,” Obiano noted.

He also directed corps employers to live up to their responsibility of accepting, nurturing and caring for corps members who have been placed under their watch. The reward system is also in place to appreciate corps members who distinguished themselves at the conclusion of service year”, noting that this would encourage them to live up to public expectations as agents of change in their various host communities.

He went on to assert that his government had exhibited unwavering confidence in the ability of youths by opening up all avenues for their participation in governance. The number one citizen of Anambra noted that such avenues had been extended to corps members to play their parts and excel in the implementation of government programmes, particularly in the areas of providing manpower for quality education, primary health care, delivery agricultural development, environmental sanitation and urban/rural beautification programmes.

“I also urge you to key into some of our youth-oriented programmes such as TRIPLE ‘I’ initiative, Smart Jobs, Youth in Agriculture, and many more,” the Anambra boss said.

Gov. Obiano affirmed that the Permanent NYSC Orientation Camp at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu would be ready for use in November.

Earlier in his introductory address, the Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kehinde Aremu, noted that the scheme had aligned with two of Obiano’s 4-point agenda, by posting corps members to fill the manpower gap in some health institutions in the state.

Aremu summoned the corps members to strive to uphold the tenets of the NYSC – service with humility, as they go out into the nooks and crannies of Anambra State.

In his words “You are ambassadors of your families, your alma Mata and now, the NYSC. You cannot afford to fail this trio. Ensure that in about 11months time, when we shall be bidding your farewell to national service, we have good stories to tell about you.” The State Coordinator urged them.

He noted that henceforth, only organizations that requested for the services of corps members would have corps members posted to them. He consequently appealed to all corps employers who have requested for the services of corps members to provide decent and safe accommodation for the corps members to facilitate their settling down.

“They should also be given assignments that will help add value to your organization”. Aremu charged.

Expressing gratitude to Gov. Obiano for his faith, financial and emotional investment in the NYSC and in Nigerian youths, the State Coordinator noted that they have very good reasons to confirm that this would indeed be the last NYSC orientation programme on the ground of Umunya.

Highlights at the ceremony include a parade by corps members three hearty cheers to the governor and lots more.
