Anambra State Govt Ask Hotel Owners To Upgrade Their Standards

Anambra State is among the leading states in Nigeria known for its great hospitability. The state government led by Chief Willie Obiano the Governor of the state has continued to do its best in making sure that hotels in the state are up to standard by bringing sanity to the hotel industry in Anambra. The Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Culture, and Tourism, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo, has called on hoteliers in the state to always maintain moral and ethical standards in their establishment.

Mbanefo stated this during an inspection visit to hotels in the state to check facilities and their operational standards. Among the inspection team led by the Commissioner, were experts from Anambra State Fire Service, Environmental health, Consultants to the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, and Security men.

On arrival at some hotels, it was observed that some facilities and equipment were not functioning, while some areas like the kitchen, hotel rooms, and environment were not hygienic.

Speaking while inspecting the facilities, Mbanefo, noted that the inspection is in line with the directives of Governor Willie Obiano, to bring sanity to the hotel industry in the state, to ensure that tourists have a holistic and beautiful experience whenever they come to Anambra.

She regretted that some hotels are operating without registration and licensing, while some operate and carry out lascivious activities like prostitution, calling on hoteliers to see the inspection as a means of creating an enabling environment for the hospitality industry to thrive in the state.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Tony Ezenwaka, who stressed that the inspection was to ensure best quality practices, insists that hotels in Anambra state must be of international standard in terms of security, facilities, personals, and services been rendered, while a consultant to the Ministry Mr. Chidi Kalu, emphasized that the inspection would benefit the hoteliers as it will attract more customers to them.

In their responses, the Managers of Funsurgh and Cosmila Hotels, Awka, Mrs. Treasure Okoye and Mr. Ifeanyi Oguejiofor, commended the state government for such initiative which he said will keep them in standard with other hotels.
