Onitsha Fire Disaster: Anambra Assembly Commiserates With Victims

The 7th Assembly of the Anambra State House of Assembly In an emergency seating commiserates with the victims of the Fire incidence which happened on Wednesday at Onitsha.

Member Representing Onitsha North 2 Constituency Edward Ibuzu moved a motion calling on the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor as a matter of urgency constitutes a committee that would felicitate the one already set by the governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano in view to curb the future occurrence of fire outbreak in Onitsha Metropolis.

Ibuzu described the Onitsha inferno as an accident and shouldn’t be linked with political terminologies and assured victims of justice to back the state government’s measures to forestall further occurrence of such an ugly event in the state.

Seconding the motion, Member representing Onitsha South 2 Constituency Hon. Beverly N. Ikpazu stated how broken she was seeing lives and properties lost to the inferno.

The motion however raised enormous emphatic concerns at plenary as the legislators in their respective parts spoke passionately on the motion.

Ruling the motion, The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor passionately condemned the incident and pleaded with Ndị Anambra to support the committee to ensure a lasting solution to such incident and pleaded with those affected to show full compliance with the government as measures are to be carried out as soon as possible.

The Speaker on behalf of Anambra Lawmakers commiserates with victims of the inferno and commend Governor Willie Obiano for his apt response to assist victims, according to the Speaker, “Preliminary investigation posits that the cause of the inferno was an accident of a fully-loaded petrol tanker and described it as an unfortunate incident that should be devoid politics but calls for sober reflection and how to find a lasting solution to such incident.

Okafor further sympathized with the immediate and extended family of the woman and child who died in the accident as well as other victims and prayed God to grant the government wisdom to find a permanent solution to situations like this and as well, give other victims the grace and enablement to recover the setback.
