The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has asserted his ministry’s authority in supervising the country’s sporting federations declaring that no sports federation is bigger than the supervisory ministry He stated this while receiving the reports from the eight-man investigative panel who reviewed the participation of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) at the recently concluded 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Dare commended the panel for working tirelessly to meet up with the one-week deadline to summit it reports and recommendations to the sports ministry, adding that the sports ministry will properly look into the reports and take appropriate action.
“There is no federation that is bigger than the sports ministry. We have the supervisory rights and the oversight on the behalf of Nigerians. We appreciate the work of federations” “We will not exchange our oversight power over any federation where we think that the federation is going wrong.

“Doha gave us the opportunity to do a surgery in view of 2020 Olympic Games because we are determined to turn the page on sports development in the country and it starts now.
“Doha remains us that we can compete with the best world and get the right result ahead in Tokyo Games”. Dare reiterated his belief that the committee had done great work and their recommendations would help in the development of athletes and sports generally in Nigeria.
“Before setting up the committee, we gave them a time of reference. We will not condone incompetence and any act that works against sports development in the country,” he said.
