Onitsha Tanker Accident: Police Arrest Driver, Assures Residents Of Safety.

A tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) yesterday, October, 31st, 2019, fell into a ditch along Onitsha/Enugu expressway in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to reports made available to Anaedoonline by the Spokesman of Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, the truck which was driven by Odion Orukpe ‘m’ aged 33, of No. 4 Bentra Street, Benin City, Edo State and was loaded with 45000 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) failed break along Onitsha/Enugu Expressway by Oando Filling Station, Onitsha, and as a result, the truck rolled back and fell into a big drainage.

According to the Police Spokesman, the Police and other security agencies responded promptly to the distress with massive deployment of patrol teams which effectively condoned off the scene in order to avert calamity.

The traffic was diverted to a safer direction while the Fire Service department was equally contacted as well as other emergency responders such as State Emergency Management Agency.

According to him, trans-loading of the PMS from the accident truck by officials of NUPENG commenced at 3pm and was completed at about 6:05pm without any casualty recorded.

He noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP. John B. Abang, FDC, has visited the scene for on the spot assessment, and the truck driver equally arrested.

The case is under investigation in order to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident, he concluded.
