According to the World Health Organisation, the largest category of conflict perpetrators and victims are the young population.
Due to this, the Peace Corps of Nigeria Nnewi North Local Government command is set to hold it’s first peace summit in Nnewi, Anambra State with the theme “Achieving Sustainable Peace in our Community (Nnewi North).”
The Youth peace summit is slated to hold on the 16th November 2019 at Nnewi North L.G.A Secretariat Hall, Nnewi.
This summit is aimed at creating a platform where young people can come together to discuss issues bothering them and also aid in preventing and resolving conflicts.
According to a press statement made available to Anaedoonline.com, it reads in part, the aim of the summit is to provide a forum for youth activists in Nnewi (Nnewi North Youth General Assembly) to engage and discuss pertinent issues of Nnewi interest; such as building a global network for our youth which will in turn connect us to global opportunities, volunteering and community development leadership skills, conflict prevention, promotion and protection of human rights, Inclusive Education, Youth Employment & Migration, Climate Change & Smart Agriculture, Youth Leadership & Governance, Urban Sanitation & Open Defecation, etc. thereby identifying strategies for conflict resolution and peacebuilding, which will promote interfaith harmony, love, compassion & co-existence among each other.

The group also stated there is a need for peacebuilding among young people in order to prevent and resolve conflict. Also, youth is the largest part of that population. “On the other hand, we know that youth contribute to 70 percent of the entire population, Which, in itself, is an indicator that youths are a pinnacle of rebuilding a sustainable principles of peace,” the statement reads.

The summit will bring together about 15 youth organizations and 10 schools from the four quarters of Nnewi to join the forum in order to connect, learn sustainable principles of peace in Nnewi.
It states, the Peace Summit will also adopt an administrative statement, which will endorse values for Nnewi North Youth General Assembly, and submit its resolution to Igwe, Nzukora, and L.G.A Chairman.
