PLENARY: Anambra Legislators Raise Alarm Over Bad Roads In Awka North

Anambra State House of Assembly has urged  the Governor of the state Chief willie Obiano to direct the commissioner for works to complete the construction of Ameansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba-Ofemili road with spur to Omor-Umuorum in Ayamelum local government area.

Chief sponsor of the motion member representing Awka North constituency, Hon. John Nwaokoye while making his submission at plenary frowned at the state of the road in his constituency.

The lawmaker in his submission said “For my Constituency to truly have a sense of belonging, serious attention must be given to basic infrastructural development, such as roads.

We need access roads to improve on our Agricultural farm yields. This motion is therefore an SOS to our listening Governor, to prioritise  Awka North roads, declaring a state of emergency in the Constituency

Quoting the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, section 15(3)  as amended, which provides that the state shall provide adequate facilities to encourage free mobility of people, goods and services and encourage free mobility of people, goods and services throughout the federation,  Nwokoye pointed out the many significant of the road which he said cuts across through the integral part of Awka North.

The Awka representative, while pleading to the state government to urgently intervene, emphasized that the dilapidated state of the road has not only regressed the spate of development within the affected communities but has also hampered the movement of farm products to various communities, markets, within the locality.

In his words” The road was awarded sometimes in 2006 to Brako construction company for the construction of the 32km road with two major bridges which have been completed but nothing has been done on the other part of the road since then.

The motion was co-sponsored with other sixteen house members
