Ekwunife, Abdullahi  Calls For Proper Utilization Of Science And Technology

Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District and the Chairman Senate committee on Science and Technology, Senator Uche Ekwunife, and the Minister of State Science and Technology, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi urged delegates of the determination of the federal government to take necessary steps to improve the science and technology sector.

Speaking at the 17th National Council of Science and Technology (NCST) meeting in Awka organised by Federal Ministry of Science and Technology while welcoming the delegates to Anambra State, Ekwunife described the Ministry of Science and Technology as key to the development of Nigeria from an import dependent nation to a sustainable, self-reliant, exporting country.

According to Ekwunife, one way to develop Nigeria’s vast natural resources is thorough research and development, which can be achieved through the practical use of science, technology and innovation.

In his address, Barr. Abdullahi noted that science, technology and innovation is the hub between Nigeria’s present and it’s future. He assured delegates of the willingness of the Buhari administration to invest in the sector for the sake of improving the nation’s economy.

The gathering was been a week-long event was held between the 25th and 29th of November 2019 with the technical committee which comprised of personnels from the various agencies under the ministry meeting to draw up recommendations for the NCST which comprise commissioners of science and technology in the 36 states of the federation.

The meeting attracted other top dignitaries the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Bitrus Bako Nabasu, the Honourable Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Anambra State, Prof. Theresa Obikezie.

Commissioners from the Ministry of Science and Technology in other states of the federation, Director General’s of agencies under the ministry and delegates gathered to review the policies and practices within the ministry and chart a way forward for the ministry.
