Anambra State has been ranked the best state in Nigeria with the highest number of women involved in decision making.
The State came top with ninety-six percent while Abia State followed with eighty-two percent.
This was part of the results of the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey Report launched in Awka by the National Population Commission, in collaboration with the Anambra State Government.
The 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) report implemented by the National Population Commission (NPC), in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) of the Federal Ministry of Health, is a national representative survey, designed to provide data to monitor the population and health situation in Nigeria.
Governor Willie Obiano, while launching the report, assured that the Anambra State Government would review the report for adoption in addressing the challenges still being faced by the State.
Represented by the Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, Governor Obiano described the 2018 survey as exceptional in view of the additional data for malaria, anemia and genotype collected through blood samples, as the aim of the survey is to provide up-to-date information on fertility, family planning, maternal and child health, sexually transmitted diseases, nutrition, domestic violence, and others ailments in the country.

Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State in the commission, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke said that it was critical to have such a document for proper planning for sustainable development.
He explained that the documents would be disseminated to the grassroots through health workers, the media and other relevant stakeholders.
Presenting the zonal key finding, the Chief Administrative Officer, NPC, Mr. Chibuzo Igboanusi, said the survey showed that Anambra State came second with fifty-three percent in violence against women after Ebonyi state with fifty-four percent while Imo, Abia and Enugu states had forty-two, thirty-nine and twenty-three percents, respectively.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator, World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Chukwumuanya Igboekwu represented by Dr. Edward Okeke urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State to leverage on the documents for the delivery of quality health services to the people of the state in the next five years.
