Minimum Wage: Anambra Govt Reassures Workers Of Payment 

Anambra State government has reassured workers of payment of the new National minimum wage.

Governor Willie Obiano who made the pronouncement at the 2019 Public Service Day celebration assured that his administration will add to workers’ salary as the IGR increases.Government House correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the celebration was held at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.The Workers’ day celebration had in attendance members of the State Exco, chairmen of Commissions, Permanent secretaries, Directors, Heads of Parastatals, Departments and Agencies and Anambra workers.Governor Obiano who reminded workers that his administration increased their salary in 2015 without prompting, encouraged them to help increase the IGR to three billion naira, assist government to block all leakages and report people that divert government revenues .

The Governor charged them to be cost conscious to reduce the recurrent expenditure and shun corruption to move the State forward, warning that government would not continue accommodate workers who are unproductive.

In his speech, the State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu who said that the day is for stock taking, adding that workers are the main engine of governance and economic stability of the State.He assured that government would continue to reward loyalty, productivity, discipline and excellence.

Barrister Udu thanked the Governor for his continuous promotion of welfare of public servants through prompt payment of salaries, pension and gratuity, promotion and annual largesse of bag of rice for Christmas celebration, among others, and asked them to take an active and leading role in maximizing productivity in the state.

Earlier, Chairman on the occasion who is the clerk of the state house of Assembly, Mr Pius Udoh, stressed that the day is important because it recognizes the value and virtue of service, pointing out that workers in the State have over the years contributed to actualize govt policies and programs.

Mr Udoh recalled that since inception Governor Obiano’s administration has continued to promote welfare and interest of workers including introduction of a lot of reforms aimed at transforming the lives of workers and called on workers to reciprocate the Governor’s gestures by remaining committed and dedicated.
