Sacked APC LGA Chairmen, Councillors In Imo Attempts To Sack Ihedioha’s TC. Resume Office

There’s mounting tension across Imo state today Monday, January 6th 2019 as the suspended LGA Chairmen and Counsellors of the APC stage a forceful return to office months after they were suspended by the Executive Governor of Imo State Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha.

In Mbaitoli, Aboh Mbaise and Orlu amongst others, there have been reports of clashes between youths of the APC and those of the PDP as the Chairmen and their counsellors attempt to force the TC members appointed by Ihedioha out of office and resume as duly elected LGA officials.

The Imo State Government through a release signed by Hon Uche Onyeagucha had warned against any attempt to disrupt law and order in the state.

The APC declared that they are carrying out a Supreme Court ruling that reinstated them in a report made available by Nwadike Chikezie and posted below:

Call on Security Agencies in the State to ensure that disgruntled elements are not allowed to disrespect and disregard the judgement of the Supreme Court on LGA Autonomy

The 27 suspended LGA Chairmen and their respective members of LGA legislative Houses have been directed to resume duty at their various LGAs in Imo State.

This directive which came from the Leadership of ALGON, Imo State Chapter and dully signed informed that it is in total compliance with the directive or outcome of the Judgement from the Supreme Court of Nigeria which is the Apex Court of the land.

Recall that on 11th of December, 2019, the Supreme Court delivered a landmark judgment stripping the State Governors and the State Houses of Assembly the powers to interfere with the autonomy of Local Government Areas.

This also means that the Governors lack the executive powers to suspend or terminate the tenures of democratically elected LGA chairmen and Councillors.

Similarly, the Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN , has advised the Governors not to play rogue or selfish by not adhering strictly to the Supreme Court Judgement as he gave 10th of January, 2020 as the deadline for full implementation of this Court order.

He however informed that the Judiciary already has her boxing gloves on in order to deal decisively with any erring Governor as stiff sanctions await such person or group of persons.

In the same vein, the Suspended LGA Chairmen and Councilors have indicated interest to resume duties and bring about grassroot development to their respective LGAs through proper utilization and management of the resources for good governance.

They called on the State Government of Imo State to tow the path of progress by ensuring smooth and seamless exercise of duty resumption just like other States like Ekiti State.

According to them, Imo State does not need any bad press or negative external image furthermore because it will be embarrassing to show lack of political maturity and disobedience to the law of the land.

They also called on the security agencies within the State to do their best in ensuring that nothing goes wrong during the duty reassumption exercise which will be taking place tomorrow because according to them, some people opposed to the LGA Autonomy are doing all they can to give it a bad name and hang it…

Imolites have also advised the. State Government to fully comply in other to avoid political tension which may spell doom for the State Government because according to them,since it is a National issue and other States have started complying, Imo Stare should be in the good book too, not otherwise.
