One Feared Dead as Hoodlums, Police Clash in Nnewi.

There was chaos in and around 100-Foot Road, Nnewi, as suspected hoodlums exchanged gunshots with suspected officers of Nigeria Police Force.

According to reports, pandemonium broke out during the weekend when security operatives stormed 100 Foot Road, Nnewi, an area known to be harbouring hoodlums who robs and sells Indian hemp.

Angered by the invasion, the rampaging youths who were armed, in protest attacked the security men as they exchange bullets.

According to an eyewitness, the stray bullet from the hoodlums hit two women and one man, the development caused apprehension as residents and shop owners at 100 Foot Roads and surrounding area, scampered to safety to avoid being hit by a stray bullet.

The victims of the melee were immediately rushed to hospital.

According to a trader in the area who pleaded anonymity, people in the area have consistently suffered in the hands of the hoodlums who he described as drug addicts and peddlers.

Narrating their ordeals, he said that some of the boys used to come with pistols to harass both traders and their customers by extorting money from them.

He cried to the state government and the security agencies to come to the aid of traders and residents of the area.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Nigeria Police Force, proved abortive at the time of writing.
