Just In: Owerri Airport On Fire For The Second Time

A fire outbreak has been reported at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. However, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, described it as a bush fire.

A statement issued by Mrs. Henriette Yakubu said air rescue and fire fighting services are presently on ground fighting the fire.

According to Yakubu, the incident did not affect flight operations as normal flight operations continue unhindered.

“The Authority will like to appeal to host communities around airports to please desist from burning bushes around the airports as this act is capable of jeopardizing the safety of flight operations because of the prevailing weather condition in the country,” Yakubu declared.
