Manchester United’s Paul Pogba admits that Liverpool deserve to win Premier League title

The Frenchman remains sidelined with the ankle injury that has kept him out of action for Man Utd for the majority of the season so far.

The midfielder last started a Premier League game in September and his last appearances came in December when he rose from the bench twice, before re-aggravating the injury and he has not been seen since.

The 26-year-old has not done a great deal to endear himself to United fans this season, and while you would struggle to argue with his point about Liverpool, some at Old Trafford will not welcome him praising their bitter rivals.

In an interview, Pogba said ‘They are so way ahead of everyone else. They have not lost a single game yet this season in the league.

‘They already have one hand on the Premier League trophy. ‘As a Manchester United player and with the rivalry between us, we don’t want them [Liverpool] to win the title — but as a football lover and a respectful player to [the] opposition team, I have to say that they deserve to be where they are today.

‘They have been even better than last season when they won the Champions League and the season before when they [lost the final to Real Madrid].’

Liverpool continued their inevitable march towards the Premier League title on Monday night as they came from behind to beat West Ham 3-2 at Anfield.

After taking the lead through Georginio Wijnaldum, they surprisingly fell behind after Issa Diop and Pablo Fornals struck.

However, star men Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane saw the home side bounce back and re-establish a 22 point lead at the top of the Premier League table and extend their unbeaten run in the league to 44 matches.

While Liverpool’s future undoubtedly includes the Premier League title, Pogba’s is less clear. The World Cup winner is expected to leave the club in the summer after admitting last year that he wants to take on a new challenge elsewhere.

However, only Real Madrid and Juventus appear likely destinations and United are trying to stick to an asking price of £150m. An exit remains likely, but there is going to be some serious haggling to be done over the summer.
