Nigeria Police Games: Gov. Obiano Visits Athletes

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano moments ago was at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka to cheer athletes of the Nigerian Police Force at the ongoing Anambra 2020 Nigeria Police Games.

The peaceful, welcoming and industrial nature of Ndi Anambra, evidently depicted in the communal mantra of ‘onye aghana nwanne ya’ (be thy brother’s keeper), captures succinctly, the preparedness of the government and people of Anambra state to host fellow Nigerians to a ten day colourful, peaceful, rewarding, delightful and entertaining games.
What is more, the ten days sporting fiesta , will reposition Anambra state – the gateway to the east and Light of the Nation, for greater achievements in sports as well as creating opportunity for social and economic advancements.
As the games kick off tomorrow, February 29, 2020, the last day of a remarkable month at the Alex Ekwueme square, the state is expected to leap in boundless sporting spirit, to embrace yet another opportunity to make history.

The event which will feature sporting activities across major fields will happen between February 29th and March 7th, 2020 at various sporting facilities in Anambra State.

No less than 5000 participants from all the Police Commands of all states of the federation and other sister security agencies are expected to attend the event.

The Police Games had in the past produced gallant officers that went ahead to represent Nigeria in the Olympics and other major international sporting competitions.

Notable among them was ACP Chioma Ajunwa who won a gold medal in the long jump at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, making her the only black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.
