Bruno Fernandes is adamant that he can improve at Manchester United after winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for February.

The Portugal international has made an excellent start at Old Trafford with two goals and three assists in five Premier League appearances so far.

Fernandes, who was signed in a £67.6 million deal from Sporting in the January transfer window, looks set to become a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield. But the 25-year-old insists has not yet hit top form.

‘Since I was a kid it was a dream to play for Man Utd, and to be there at Old Trafford is the biggest dream of my career,’ Fernandes told the Premier League.

‘When you come to a new club you always want to score, and the first goal is special. ‘It doesn’t matter how the goal is scored, but important is the goal’s worth. ‘I’m happy with my start, but from now I need to give more, to be better.’

The 25-year-old midfielder has made an immediate impact at Old Trafford – racking up three goals and four assists since arriving in January – and the Red Devils are yet to lose a game in which he’s been playing.

Fernandes has already been compared to the likes of Eric Cantona and Paul Scholes and his phenomenal start has raised serious questions about whether or not Paul Pogba has a future at United.

Speaking after Fernandes’ impressive performance in the Manchester derby, ex-United right-back Neville highlighted the Portuguese’s insatiable appetite for winning back the ball.

Asked about Neville’s comments, Fernandes replied: ‘It’s so nice to hear these kind of words from legends. ‘When I react when I lose the ball I am angry, every time I want more. I think this is the difference between me and some players. If you want to be better and better and be one of the best, you need to look for the ball.
