‘We Will Conduct LGA Elections Very Soon’ – Gov Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State on Tuesday declared his intentions to conduct local government elections anytime soon.

He made his intentions known through a letter he sent to the state House of Assembly on Tuesday requesting a legislative backing to constitute the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC).

Reading the letter from the governor during plenary on Tuesday, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr Collins Chiji said that Governor Uzodinma, urged the legislature to approve the appointment of chairman and members of the Imo state Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC).

The governor nominated Mrs. Pauline Onyeka as Chairman while Henry Adimelechi, Ezeukwu, Mrs. Jacinta Uchechukwu and John Ohiri will serve as members.

The speaker appointed Authur Egwim (Ideato North) as the chairman of the screening committee of the nominees.

He urged the ad-hoc committee to report to the house on Thursday.

Recently, Governor Hope Uzodinma sent list of Commissioners to the Imo State House of Assembly for screening.

A source told reporters that the list was sent by the Governor shortly after the Supreme Court reaffirmed him as Governor of the State.

Uzodinma had last week appointed 10 special Advisers who were earlier approved by the Imo State House of Assembly.

The source added saying that ”Gov Uzodinma has now settle for work and that the distractions are over now .

quoting the Governor our scource said ”He has great vision for the State and he is now turbo charged to work for the development of the State”.

The number one citizen of Imo commended the Supreme Court over its judgement that re-affirmed him as the duly elected Governor of Imo State.

Uzodinma who spoke with journalists after the Supreme Court’s ruling noted that the outcome is the expectation of the people of Imo State.

“The judgment represents the expectation of the mandate of the people. We give God all the glory that at the end of the day, the truth came prevailed. We commend the wisdom of the Supreme Court in standing by the truth.”
