COVID-19: Enugu CP Seeks Enforcement Of Social Restriction Order

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman has ordered various units of the command to ensure strict enforcement of the social restriction orders given by the Federal Government as part of measure aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

This is as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu ordered the strict enforcement of legitimate orders given by various levels of government.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu, Monday by the Command spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the CP directed Officers and men of the command to stop any form of unnecessary arrest and detention of suspects in Police Cells within the Command.

The CP also ordered the immediate release on bail of suspects who might have been detained for offences considered not very serious.

He said that suspects arrested for serious offences such murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape/defilement and others that are nonbailable, must be thoroughly screened before they are detained to avoid the spread of the virus.

The CP advised citizens of the State to remain vigilant and law-abiding in this trying moment, adding that they must avoid social visits to Police Stations and offices as well as reduce official visits.

“I want to reassure all and sundry of the Command’s commitment to ensure the security and safety of lives and property in the State” he said.
