The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) last week inspected the ultramodern molecular laboratory in Nnewi, Accunalysis Diagnostics Center Ltd, Nnewi.

According to Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, the convener of Anambra Fights COVID-19, the inspection was done by a laboratory scientist/expert from NCDC who was impressed and mentioned that no laboratory in the entire South East is as well equipped as the lab’s facility.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said there are seven laboratories for testing Coronavirus in the country. The laboratories are; NCDC National Reference Laboratory in Abuja, Nigeria Institute of Medical Research in Lagos, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo state, African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) in Osun State, and University College Hospital, Ibadan, etc.

There is an urgent need of getting more centers that can carry out these specialised tests. Diagnostic testing for COVID-19 is critical to tracking the virus, understanding the epidemiology, informing case management, and to suppressing transmission.

World Health Organization (WHO) has continued to emphasize the critically important role ‘testing’ plays in curbing the spread and transmission of the COVID-19. In fact, it describes it as a game-changer.

According to a report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), only 2000 people have been tested so far as of March 30th, 2020. The total number of people tested to date is not only depressing but might also be a forewarning that the current numbers of infected persons may be way higher than the numbers reported by the NCDC.

It will surely be a landmark achievement if NCDC approves Accunalysis Diagnostics Center as a center for the COVID-19 test, it then means Anambra State will now have a COVID-19 testing area without traveling far and wide for it.

The center is an indigenously owned state of the art facility designed to be a one-stop healthcare delivery center with cutting edge diagnostics equipment and excellent service delivery in line with international best practices.

Accunalysis Diagnostics Center was established in October 2019 to proffer Healthcare providers, Corporate Organizations, public as well as private individuals access to affordable, precise, accurate and consistent healthcare solutions. The center is an example of a world-class diagnostic facility in Radiology, Pathology, etc.
