Coronavirus: Nigeria Now Has Nine Laboratories For Tests

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that there are now nine laboratories in Nigeria where people can test for coronavirus.

The centre in a tweet on Sunday said the number of laboratories increased after the Lagos State Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory was activated for COVID-19 testing.

The NCDC also noted that the laboratories in Maiduguri, Kano, Sokoto, Port Harcourt, Jos and Kaduna were still work in progress.

Recall that the Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire has said the national testing capacity for COVID-19 was now 1,500 tests per day, which is an increase from 500 tests previously.

As of April 5th, the centre confirmed 224 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria. Out of this number, 25 had been discharged with 4 deaths.

However, The federal government has acquired the necessary reagents to test for suspected cases of the Novel Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this at the briefing after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House.

The Minister at the earlier stage of the outbreak of the virus disclosed that Nigeria has set up three laboratories across the country to test suspected patients for the disease.
