The Real Madrid and Brazilian former professional footballer who now works as a football ambassador clashed a couple of times in La Liga when Finidi was plying his trade for Real Betis.

Both players were at the peak of the careers with Carlos winning the best defender three times while Finidi won the best right-winger at one point in his career.

Finidi and Carlos were close to joining Los Blancos in 2004 but the former Nigerian international turned the offer to play at the Santiago Bernabeu to join Betis.

On the other hand, the Brazilian moved to the Spanish capital and won four La Liga titles as well as three Champions League honours in 11 seasons with Los Merengues.

Carlos also won two Copa America titles in 1997, and 1999 as well as the 2002 World Cup with the Selecao – the same year he was runner-up in the FIFA Ballon d’Or award.

Recently, The former Real Madrid full back gave a revealing interview in which he detailed how player power had brought down more than one coach at the Bernabéu.

Speaking about his experience with Vicente del Bosque, who was ushered out of the door in 2003 shortly after landing the Liga title, Carlos said: “He was more like a friend. You didn’t need rules. We knew perfectly well what he wanted. Training on Monday was at five in the afternoon. Sometimes on Tuesday as well. He didn’t ask us to come in at 11:00 because practically nobody showed up.”
