Transfer: Liverpool Joins Victor Osimhen Transfer Race

Liverpool FC, the current league leaders in the English Premier League (EPL) has open talks with Lille in negotiation of Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen.

Reports have it that The Reds have begun talks with his agent as they commenced the process of signing him in the summer transfer window.

Aside Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are other Premier League giants who are also in the fray to sing the Nigerian.

The 21-year-old has scored 18 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions, since arriv­ing from Belgian club RSC Charleroi last summer.

His goal scoring abilities have attracted the attention of Liverpool, Chelsea, United and AC Milan.

However, according to French publication Le­10Sport, Liverpool have opened discussions with Osimhen’s representatives.

It claims talks have taken place to “lay the foundations” for an opening contract of­fer that could see the eight-capped Nigeria international arrive at Anfield this summer.

However, Lille are expected to demand a high fee for the youngster and are seeking an offer of at least £60million (€70m) before they would consider selling him. Chel­sea have also contacted Lille to make them aware that they are interested in the player if the club decides to sell.

Manchester United, Leices­ter and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the young striker, with the latter making Lille aware they are keen if they decide to sell.

Odion Ighalo, former Su­per Eagles striker, is among the players to have heaped praise on his ability.

The Manchester United loanee called him the ‘future of Nigerian football’, and there are expected to be some big bids made for him when the transfer window opens fol­lowing the coronavirus crisis.

Osimhen, meanwhile, has previously spoken of his ambitions to play in England during his career, while also warning interested parties that he will not settle for a role warming the bench.
