Police Vows To Arrest Violators Of Imo-Awka Suspension Order

The Anambra State Police Command has restated its determination to enforce the order on the suspension of 2020 Egwu Imo Awka Cultural festival and other festivals by the State Government.

It said it would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any individual or group of persons found violating the order which was made in the overall interest of ‘Ndi Anambra’ and other residents alike.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed enjoined all citizens to adher strictly to the directives in order to enhance public safety and security.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command wishes to inform the general Public that following the suspension of 2020 Egwu Imo Awka Cultural festival and other festivals by the Anambra State Government in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the State, the Command is determined to enforce the order to the letter and will therefore not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any individual or group of persons found violating this Government order which was made in the overall interest of ‘Ndi Anambra’ and other residents alike.

“In view of the foregoing,the Command once again solicits the cooporation and understanding of the public by adhering strictly to this Government directives in order to enhance public safety and Security which the citizens continue to enjoy in the State.”

It would be recalled that Anambra State Government  announced the suspension of the 2020 edition of the Egwu Imo Awka cultural festival scheduled to commence soon in the state capital.

Announcing the suspension, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu said that the cultural event was suspended by the state government taking cognizance of the prevailing federal government curfew order, state government order on public gatherings, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines on preventing the spread of the Coronavirus also known as Covid-19.

Chukwulobelu added that the suspension also extends to other cultural festivals in Anambra state.
