George Floyd’s Daughter Gets Full Scholarship To Texas Southern University

Texas Southern University has announced it would give a full scholarship to George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter, when she’s college age.

Mr Floyd was an unarmed black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes as he told them “I can’t breathe”.

Floyd’s death has sparked mass protests across the US, with governors in several states calling in National Guard troops in an attempt to maintain order.

The Texas Southern University made this known on Tuesday night, the day George Floyd was laid to rest in his hometown of Houston.

‘The Board of Regents of Texas Southern University (TSU) honors the memory of George Floyd on the day that he is laid to eternal rest. Mr. Floyd was a lifelong citizen of the Third Ward and a revered graduate of Jack Yates High School.

‘The Board, in conjunction with the TSU Foundation Board, has approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna. TSU’s executive and academic staff will prepare a place for Miss Floyd if she wishes to attend the University.

Sympathizers who gathered at a Houston church on June 9 to pay tribute to George Floyd at his hometown funeral were thrown into tears as they bade him farewell.

The Houston funeral service marked the culmination of a long farewell to the 46-year-old African American whose death in custody ignited global protests against police brutality and racism blacks in America and beyond.

Politicians, civil rights activists and celebrities joined the family to share memories of the man they called a “gentle giant” before his gold casket was due to be conveyed by horse-drawn carriage to his final resting place by his mother’s grave.
