The Federal Government has commenced compensating property owners affected by the construction of the 700-km Lagos-Calabar Highway, with payments starting on May 1, 2024. Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, made this announcement during a stakeholders meeting in Lagos State.

Engr. Umahi clarified that the compensation would be disbursed to property owners situated on the gazetted federal government right-of-way, utilizing the government’s previous compensation rate. Additionally, plans are underway to install solar cameras on the Third Mainland Bridge by June, following proactive measures to address damages caused by erosion and illegal dredging to the piles supporting the bridge.
