A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, says the party will suffer “dire consequences” in Edo State for disqualifying Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Mr Obaseki, who was seeking re-election, was disqualified on Friday by the APC screening panel from contesting in the party’s primary scheduled for June 22 ahead of polls in September.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Ray Morphy, Odigie-Oyegun alleged that Obaseki’s disqualification was to allow the installation of a stooge to enable unhindered access to state funds.

“While not a surprise, that disqualification is a clear indication that internal democracy has been murdered in the progressive party, a party which we founded on the principles of fair play and good conscience!” the statement read.

“As a matter of fact, Oshiomhole is indeed the one who is guilty of anti-party (activities), not Obaseki. Oshiomhole is the one who is acting unconstitutionally not Obaseki. I hope that Oshiomhole will not go down in history as the undertaker of APC.
