Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his disqualification from the Edo governorship race by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki’s defection to the PDP came hours after the APC disqualified him from participating in the Edo governorship election under its banner for allegedly failing to present his Senior School Leaving Certificate to its screening committee.

It was gathered that the Edo governor defected to the PDP along with all 18 local government chairmen in the state.

Earlier, the chairman of the APC in Edo State, Anselm Ojezua, had said despite Obaseki’s disqualification from the party, the governor would go-ahead to seek a second term under another party.

“They didn’t say he will not contest the election but that he will not contest under the platform of the APC.

“By tomorrow, we will meet and be in a position to make a proper statement on what the future holds for the party in Edo State,” Mr Ojezua was quoted as saying by Mr Obaseki’s aide, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement.
