Enugu Airport: Reps Members Express Happiness With Pace Of Work

Members of the House of Representatives from Enugu state have expressed satisfaction with the extent of progress made in the reconstruction of the Akanu-Ibiam International Airport.

Speaking when he took members of the hluse of reps from the state on an oversight function, Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Toby Okechukwu said the contractor was doing a good job to get the airport back in shape.

Okechukwu appreciated the completion of parts of the projects especially the active runway and turning pad adding that they were up to speed considering the situation on ground.

He drew the attention of the contractors to safety issues, pointing at the need for smooth transition from the runway to the shoulder and need for active run-off of water from the runway.

“Because of the elevated position of the active Run-Way, they need to fix the shoulder so that in case of safety issues they would be a smooth transition from the Runway to the shoulder.” he said.

Also speaking, House Committee Chairman on Aviation, Hon. Nnoli Nnaji noted that the project could be completed by July, giving thepace of work.

In his words “you know that during rain you don’t asphalt. What they do now is to lay asphalt once there is no rain. But the good thing is that they are in the site and working”.

Speaking further, he said “everyone is hoping for reopening date of the project adding that with availability of fund, we will laugh last because the airport will come out strong”.
