Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, has said they will not win the Champions League, if they don’t improve their performances.

Messi was speaking after a 2-1 loss to Osasuna, which saw Real Madrid crowned LaLiga champions on Thursday.

Barca could still avoid their first trophyless season since 2007/2008, if they win the Champions League which resumes next month.

The Catalans drew 1-1 with Napoli in the first leg of their last-16 tie and host the Serie A club on August 8.

“I said it before that if we continued playing as we were, it would be difficult to win the Champions League and now it’s clear it wasn’t even enough to win La Liga.

“We have to change a lot because if we don’t, we will lose against Napoli as well. We need a little time to clear our heads and then to think about the Champions League, which starts from zero,” Messi said.

After the game yesterday, Barcelona congratulated bitter rivals Real Madrid for winning the 2019/2020 LaLiga title. Zinedine Zidane’s men beat Villarreal 2-1 on Thursday night, while the Catalans lost 2-1 at home to Osasuna.

The results saw Real open a seven-gap between themselves and Barca, with one round of matches left.

“Congratulations to Real Madrid on winning the 2019/20 La Liga title,” the tweet read.

Karim Benzema netted a double including a penalty at an empty Alfredo di Stefano Stadium, to ensure Los Blancos end their two-year wait for a domestic title.

Speaking after the game, Barcelona manager, Quique Setien, said he could be sacked before they resume their Champions League campaign in August.

Quique, speaking after a 2-1 home defeat to Osasuna on Thursday, admitted his job is at risk after they failed a failed LaLiga title defence.

Real Madrid wrestled back the title from their rivals with a 2-1 win over Villarreal. Los Blancos are now seven points ahead of Barca with each club having one fixture left.

But Setien told reporters post-match: “I hope to be the Barcelona coach in the Champions League but I don’t know.
